THE OLIVE CAFÉ

The Olive café is a community focused space which comprises of a popular café & restaurant to the left side and a community events space on the right. The design inspiration for this project was escapism, designing a space to feel like they're on holiday when they can't be. At the core of every project the materials and design development is focused around our connection to nature, people's well-being and the impact the space will have on our planet.

We worked with Bill's brand DNA and developed it to create this unique site. We wanted to create an experience that people remembered and wanted to return too. With a large glass facade to the front, wall space was limited meaning that we wanted to make the most out of the walls we had. We embellished them with rich textures, layered artwork and shelving to allow for all of Bill's beautiful ornaments.

We wanted to maximize the impact of having a glass shop front whilst still providing privacy to the people inside. We created a low level planting feature creating privacy and added feature glowing lanterns up high to create an enticing glow from outside. Its is so important to create a atmosphere that is also obvious from outside to encourage people to come in.

We complimented Bill's signature wall colour with a warm timber floor,  velvets, marble, antique brass and mirror creating a unique and sophisticated materials palette.

Toilets are such an important part to commercial design, especially within the food industry. If I go to a restaurant and the toilets are grubby it makes wonder what the kitchen is like! I think it is crucial that toilets are not forgotten about and Bill thought this too. We developed this scheme inspired by Bill's signature orange and found this amazing wallpaper, which we decided to put not only on the walls but the ceiling too. Picking colours from within the wallpaper we found these beautiful tiles and complimented it all with brass details.

We wanted the bar area to have a different feel to the dining area but still flow as one. We used higher level seating and a feature brass table to encourage a social atmosphere. We needed there to be an entrance lobby to reduce drafts but wanted to make it special. We took inspiration from traditional greenhouses and made a botanical entrance that would excite people from the moment they stepped in.

The main restaurant area is comfortable and feels special. We wanted to ensure there were no seats that were undesirable maximizing covers and experience.
